What Is a Marital Settlement Agreement in a Divorce in Florida?

Return to Videos

Video Transcript:

A marital settlement agreement is essentially a written contract between both parties to the relationship that sets forth the rules and guidelines they’re going to live under as they move forward through the end of their relationship. That can cover things like parenting of any children they may have, how they’re going to divide their assets and debts, how their going to divide up their home, their car, their other assets and liabilities, how they’re going to share their children and divide the time and the responsibilities of raising them between them, and then everything else that’s left over. Pretty much anything that you have going on in your family situation can be provided for, in an agreement that says how everyone will live and move forward.
